This month, we couldn’t be happier to highlight our volunteer Elizabeth Sosa. Elizabeth was first introduced to The Center this past February, when our Young Professionals Group held a fundraising event at CycleBar Sawyer Heights, where she works as a spin instructor. Elizabeth feels strongly about CycleBar’s emphasis on giving back to the community and she considers it important on a personal level to read up on the organizations they host before leading a charity ride. Having grown up with a beloved uncle with intellectual disabilities, Elizabeth felt an immediate connection with The Center’s mission and knew she wanted to get involved beyond the ride.

Elizabeth hit the ground running with fun volunteer projects and has shown no signs of stopping! Right away, she and her teenage son came to our West Dallas campus for a movie night with our clients. They hung out, shared conversation, and provided all the snacks. It was so much fun that they decided to get started planning another event. Elizabeth, her son, and some friends from CycleBar came back to The Center to host a paint party. They brought all of the supplies with them and then just encouraged people to express themselves and have fun. Elizabeth says that this has been her favorite event so far because she got to know the participants’ individual personalities and creative processes and see them represented on each canvas.

In addition to planning fun activities for our clients, Elizabeth has also begun helping out as a volunteer with our Gingersnaps Etc. cookie initiative. She staffed our booth at a recent Eastside Urban Harvest Market and is excited for the next market!

As a volunteer, Elizabeth brings a special kind of contagious energy and excitement to all of the activities in which she takes part, helping to open our clients up to new opportunities for fun and creativity. She exudes a casual passion that makes it obvious that caring about others is not work for her—it’s second nature. Her volunteer activities are focused on heart, quality time, and effort—three things we can never have enough of! Many thanks to Elizabeth for her time and dedication.
